Introduction

The great poet and author of many famous plays, Shakespeare, perceived the world as a stage of theatre where every human plays his or her part to decorate the performance of this world. Similarly, theatres and dramas that we see on stage are bedecked by many dramatis personae who take part to make the play successful. Drama and dance have lived all through human history. It may be that there is an innate impulse in persons to mime and play. This may encompass playing out sentiments, making up to be somebody and worshiping or expressing devout feelings. The experience is communicated to the viewers through a blend of speeches, music, songs, dances and gestures (Conquergood, pp. 84).

Theatres originated from rituals and ceremonies that were accompanied by myths. These myths entered the storytelling tradition and shifted towards entertainment. Through these rites, actors and leaders emerged. The earliest model of such rituals that evolved towards theatre has its roots in ancient Egypt. These dramas were used to illustrate the continuity of life and the pharaoh's supremacy. The essence of theatrical performance was established by Greeks. Tribes used to compete with each other in performances and the best performance would have the admiration of winning the competition. Greeks introduced comedy theatres which were based on just imitations, but it's the Romans that made theatre a vital form of entertainment. Unlike ancient Greece, comedy, dance, masks and flute playing were more popular in Rome than tragedy. It was in Rome, where a first permanent structure of theatre was build that had a stage with corridors that provide access to the auditorium or to the orchestra. After Greece and Rome, theatre got more popularity and it spread out in the diverse countries including UK, France, Spain, whole Northern and Eastern Europe, India and United States of America.

Theatre is a form of fine arts that inculcate creativity at a humongous scale. The director, producer, lyricist, composers and writers and even the back stage crew needs to be creative to their full extent to make a theatre success. The creativity not needs to be judged by the genre of the play rather it's better to analyze how effectively an idea is presented, how indulging was the performance, what message team is trying to address and what impact would it have on society. This all mainly relies on the idea generation on which director and producer want to deliver their efforts. There have been many plays, dramas or movies in history which made an everlasting impact on the society, the impact could have been positive or negatives. This paper will take a close look into how theories of the theatre relate the general ideology of directors' creative processes in developing and directing stage works.
