The population of the prisons has become so much diverse in terms of affiliation with organized gangs or organized crimes, race, crime type, ethnicity, gender and age. As a result, of this increased diversity the prisons have become more updated when it comes to classify and separating the population of the prison according to the level of security, need of special program, medical problems and work programs. The only thing that is constant over time is that the inmates are still released from the prisons, and they get sent back to the society from which they got sentenced. After serving the punishment, they are sent back to the society to live normally with their families, to work, find a job, to be a part of the society. There are many prisoners who are not able to adjust to normal life after being released from prison. Usually they go back to their criminal ways and then end up re-entering the prison.
Reasons why Prisoners Re-Enter Prison
During the time-period, in which an inmate serve the sentence in prison the society in that time-period faces numerous alterations and undergo many changes. After the punishment when the inmate is sent to the ordinary society, it appears to be drastically changed in terms of availability of community resources, availability of jobs and availability of support from family, friends and relatives (Petersilia, pp. 56).
