CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction of the Project

I have chosen the project “The role of knowledge management in enhancing organizational effectiveness: a study of “Ras Gas Company Qatar”. The organization's intellectual capital management has become increasingly important in today's knowledge-based society. Commercial and public institutions are familiar that being an effective learning organization is importance. More and more individuals are needed who have appropriate training and experience of knowledge management. (Barney 2008, 99)

1.2 Background of the Company

Knowledge management is a modern emerging discipline focused on the application of ideas, strategies, tools and techniques aimed at improving the creation, acquisition, accumulation, sharing, protection, distribution, and utilization of knowledge. This also encompasses intellectual capital, intellectual property, and intangible assets in the service of customers and other stakeholders. (Athanassiou 2007, 83)

There are accepted researching techniques for example the quantitative and qualitative methods are generally applied in the researches of science and also in other areas of research, but for this project, I have found the study on Ras Gas Company Qatar, which is suitable to detain the actions of the company and also the appliance of processes that are related to the project. (Nonaka 2007, 1437)

One of the greatest constraints to study the topic in deep is the language diversity within Ras Gas. Some of the data available in Ras Gas is in Arabic. Moreover, each factory is using the local language for their internal communication. This makes it difficult to collect and compare some information. (Nonaka 2007, 104)
