CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION

Background

In the last ten years, the reentry and rehabilitation of prisoners has become a burning social and community problem as well as a challenge for the governmental policies. There are approximately 600,000 prisoners who are released from the federal and state prison on an annual basis. If the juvenile, are taken into account then approximately 700,000 prisoners with physical, vocational, education, drug treatment and mental health needs enters the society across the state every year. The magnitude of this issue is rising with the increasing prison population. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, almost two third of the released criminals and prisoners are likely to get rearrested in the span of three years and almost half would be reincarnated. The research about faith-based practices provides a chance to the criminologists to developed more shaded theories of the association between crime and faith. A few measurements and conceptualizations of faith report a very strong relationship of recidivism and crime. In the same way, the faith may influence the level of crime and faith in crime may be moderated or mediated by other forms of conventional and classic crime factors. For practitioners and policymakers, the advances in theory can provide the ground for development of more consistent and coherent practices, including critical dimensions identification that these practices are going to be very ...
