ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to assess the importance of the employee/manager relationship at work and the effects of employees' interaction with their managers on their attitudes toward the organization. The study predicted employees who interact with their managers more often are more loyal to their organization than employees who interact with their managers less often
Chapter I: Introduction
Effective employee/manager relationships at work increase the productivity of an organization. We hear this statement from managers and human resource professionals in organizations, where there is ongoing debate among practitioners on the topic of the importance of the employee/manager relationship at work, even at a time when the workforce is increasingly crucial for organizational competitiveness and success (Theodore, 2002).
Problem statement
The problem that this study is intended to address is whether employees' attitudes toward an organization may vary based on the level of interaction they have with their manager. This study intends to determine whether there is a relationship between employee/manager interaction and employee attitudes or performance at work.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to provide greater understanding of the research on the importance of employee/manager relationships at work, and offer recommendations based on the 3 hypotheses tested in this research. One important aspect of the research is to analyze the effects of employees' interaction with their managers on their attitudes toward the organization.
The specific hypotheses are:
Hypothesis #1: Employees who interact with their managers more often are more loyal to their organization than employees who interact with their managers less often.
Hypothesis #2: Employees who interact with their managers more often have higher morale than employees who interact with their manager less often.
Hypothesis #3: Employees who interact with their managers more often have a more positive attitude toward their organization than employees who interact with their managers less often.
Importance of the Study:
It is refutable that the importance of employee/manager relationship at work is critical for the competitiveness and success of an organization. The study will tell us that if the interaction between the management and the workforce is crucial to enhance positive employee attitudes towards the organization.
Delimitations of the study
The study will address the importance of the employee/manager relationship at work, as well as the effects of the employees' interaction/engagement with their managers on their attitudes toward the organization.
