Crimes are split up into three classes: infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies. Though each is administered with according to the same general directions as it winds its way through the lawless person justice scheme, more critical crimes pursue a more convoluted and lengthy path. Infractions like traffic permits are attractive simple. Since no apprehend is made, persons cited for infractions can either pay the fine or challenge the citation in court. Generally, defense solicitors and prosecutors are not involved. Instead, a referee manages review of the matter, works out whether the infraction was correctly handed out, and groups befitting penalties, if any are necessary.

Misdemeanors, because the latent penalties are stricter, engage more people and have more stages before a final decision - or verdict - is made. Process for Misdemeanors

Misdemeanors - such as petty theft, reckless driving, first time DUI, simple assault and battery, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and underage drinking - carry penalties of up to one year in county jail, fines of up to $1000, counseling, and/or work project.
