The Cold War and U.S. Diplomacy

President Lyndon. B. Johnson (1963-1969)

The President which I have selected for my analysis is President L. B. Johnson who was the 36th president of the U.S. He is one of those presidents who have served to the nation for four elected years. Johnson was a democrat from Texas. After John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 Johnson become the president of U.S. Johnson's involvement in Vietnam War is always remembered, as he was the one who increased the American involvement in the matter of Vietnam. Due to this step the progress of United States towards peace and prosperity was distorted and slowed down. Johnson was highly criticized due to Vietnam War. He was succeeded by Richard Nixon who was a member of Republican Party. People voted republicans because the Democratic party of United States was divided into different feuding factions during the time of Lyndon. B. Johnson. The Doctrine of Johnson Doctrine was articulated by President L. B. Johnson after the intervention of Dominican Republic in United States in 1965. The domestic revolution was also declared by him stating that intervention of Dominican Republic in the Western Hemisphere is not a local matter. The doctrine of Johnson is considered to be an extension of the Kennedy's Doctrine. It is considered that this doctrine was proposed to oppose the movements of democracy in Latin America which was in the favor of military dictatorship of right-wing in U.S (Levy 2002).

Doctrine of Kennedy

Doctrine of Kennedy was articulated by President John. F. Kennedy during 1961 and 1963. Kennedy raised his voice against the communism which was progressing in Western Hemisphere. In 1961, President John. F. Kennedy presented guide lines upon which the future policy of the United States of America was supposed to formulate. He asked the public to join him in his quest to removal of things like war, poverty, tyranny and diseases. Dominican intervention started in the time of Kennedy which was labeled as Cold War. In order to balance the communism, Kennedy asks for military support along with global cooperation and disarmament. Kennedy was of the idea that if United States of America has the power and strength that she can control the international events, and if the reality is like that than they should control the international systems and especially events (Lisiero 2008).
