In this paper, we will discuss the human service delivery application to the teen mental health. The paper will focus on the spirituality and the helping process of the human service delivery. Mental health is a resource for life. It allows us to learn, work, have fun and enjoy life. It also helps us through difficult times.
People who have a mental health problem or have a child who is affected of the disease often feel shame, guilt or embarrassment for it. Some believe that this disease is a sign of weakness. Parents often feel guilty, believing that they are the reason behind mental illness of their child. Some people condemn or judge people who have a mental health problem as different to other people. These prejudices further complicate the lives of children, youth and families who are facing such a problem. This is one of the reasons they sometimes do not ask for the treatment since they want to hide their illness from other people.
Discussion
For good physical and emotional health, it is very important that the child maintains a close relationship with his parents. However, sometimes this is not enough for them. Children and adolescents may experience mental health problems even if their parents are more attentive ever. When there is a problem, parents are the first to notice and must ensure that children and adolescents receive the help they need. It can be difficult to provide support to a child who experiences a mental health problem, so they must take care of their own mental health. They must ask their family, friends and professionals to help them for the treatment of their disease.
Following is given the kind of support which is provided by the human service in the community.
Types of Assistance and Support
Crisis or emergency. Many communities have mental health crisis lines that the people can call for support in times of crisis.
The parents may consult their family doctor or pediatrician with the child or teenager. The doctor will determine if there is a physical health problem and refer them to mental health services as needed.
If the child or teen has academic problems (poor grades, behavior problems, arguments with his comrades), the parents should talk to the teacher. The school may be able to put a resource teacher, a social worker or psychologist at the parents' disposal. In the case of college or university, they may contact to the health services for students of the institution (Donaldson, 2005).
In many provinces, there are "mental health centers for children" which expressly provide services to children, youth and families.
Hospitals provide mental health services for children and adolescents. They also offer a variety of mental health services.
Service centers particularly provide counseling services to children, youth and families. These services are usually paid, but the fees are based on family income.
If the child has problems with addiction, there are specialized services that help specifically with addictions.
Support and advocacy groups are often set up by families who have experienced similar problems.
