Team and Small Group Experience Essay

Introduction

A group of two or more people who are together working for a same purpose is called team and the people involved are called team members. It is important for all the team members to work with complete devotion. The main purpose of forming a team is to work towards a common goal (Larry, Sweet and Dean, 2011). For instance, here I am going to share my own experience with a devoted team. It was an effective team with eight members.

Discussion

In a business course, I was assigned with a team in order to work on a project. We were a team of eight members.

The Participants

The participants in the work group were Tom, Robert, Julie, John, Sam, Daniel, Mike, and I.

The Goals and Objectives

The project was related to research and writing. The subject of that project was to write about the AIG Insurance, its created scandal and its impacts on the economic condition. Bulk of information was available on that topic that is why it was not that much difficult to research on that topic.

As the project started, the team determined the necessity of making a leader who had all the leader ship qualities to make the team work in an effective manner. It is a fact that all the teams need a leader who makes the team work efficiently towards a common objective. Without a leadership a team would be worth less, there would be lack of motivation and coordination in order to achieve the target. It was decided to select leader for a week, and the next week the same leader would be replaced by any other leader. We all were agreed with the decision, and after that I was selected as the first leader. It seemed to be a big responsibility for me. I tried to maintain a proper coordination among all the team members and manage the entire assigned task in a proper way. During my leadership I was not only responsible for my own work but I was also responsible to keep a check on others' work. I had to develop milestone events timeline and a timeline that would guarantee us a successful completion of all the tasks according to the planned schedule (John, David, and Chris, 2008).

The project was divided into two groups according to specific task. All the team members were satisfied as we all believed we would not face any problem in accomplishing the project. At the early stages of the project, every individual seemed to be very devoted and was involved in the work like a team player (Larry, Sweet and Dean, 2011).

The Positives and Negatives

Working with a team has both positive as well as negative aspects. When we had our meetings, we thoroughly discuss about the progress and it showed that every one of us was working in an effective way. It was decided to make a proper schedule of all the tasks to accomplish the project within the ...
