Travis Bickle is an ex-marine who takes a job as a New York City cabby in rank to inhabit his sleepless nights. He is all alone and disaffected. He collapses in love with Betsy, an operation staff at Palentine operation headquarters. Their courtship comes to an end horribly when Travis attempts to take Betsy to a stained cinema because he presumes that is what pairs of population do.
