This chapter included in “Essential Haematology” by Hoffbrand and Moss discusses the genetic disorders of haemoglobin. These disorders mainly fall into two main groups. In the first one, thalessaemia synthesis of or ß globin chain in reduced. In this disorder a reduced rate of synthesis occurs of haem due to which the iron deficiency is caused.
