Strategies Development Is Not Limited to Rational Planning
Introduction
The paper begins through critically analysing and discussing the assignment statement that states as “the strategy should only ever be developed by rational planning. In order to critically discuss the assignment statement, it is imperative for carefully understanding the different strategy concepts and schools. However, the framework structure for this assignment will mainly be discussing the limitation of the classical strategy school, which emphasizes on the rational thinking only in building and developing a strategy. Through applying live examples from the real world duly correlated and supported by relevant theories and concept, the reader will be able to conclude that the strategy development is not actually limited only from rational planning, however also there are other factors and elements which help in developing and formulating the strategy (Beath, 2007: 9). This paper will also focus on the drawbacks for applying the assignment statement in the real world examples, and also the possibility for amalgamating different concepts, thoughts and methods from different school in developing an unequivocal and effective strategy.
Definition
Before going through the assignment question, it is significant to define the strategy and how it is developed. Concurrently it is also required for understanding the planning process and also its direct correlation in the implementing and developing of strategy.
Strategy
It can be defined simply as “knowing where we want to go, what and how to get there”. Strategy is basically a direction and scope for the organization over the long-term, which achieves the advantages for the organization through its configuration of resources within a challenging environment, for meeting up the needs of markets and to fulfil the stakeholders' expectations. In order to develop a strategy consistent with the needs of an organization, it is essential to take into account some variables and factors that determine the functionality and efficiency of the strategies based on the structure of the company (Emery, 2010, pp. 281-96).
Mission and Vision
Two fundamental tools for an organization, without which this lack of identity and direction, are its vision and mission. The mission is the reason for the company, the reason for which it exists. The impact of the mission is determined by several elements such as commitment to the mission, which is shared by most officials and that they can identify. And the degree to which the organization aligns its internal structure, policies and procedures to its mission (Druskat, 2003, pp. 435-57).
Each and every organization needs to have goals for achieving it, these goals are clearly expressed in the organizations' mission and vision statements. The company's mission and overall organizational goals should guide all its planning effort. Its goals should specify the ends or results are sought', in this context each organization creates its own corporate strategy which differentiates it from its competitors and rivalry (McDonnell, 2007, 165-175).
