Introduction

From the prior studies it has been seen that most of the people act inadequately in the situations in which they think they are being stereotyped. Stereotyping can be understood as the shared beliefs concerning personal characteristics, personality traits behavior, and a group of people. Stereotypes are a kind of mental image a person has a group of individuals and individuals in this group. Stereotyping is a process of applying to individuals' judgment-stereotypical-that makes these individuals interchangeable with other members of their class "A person belonging to a group will be considered as having the same characteristics as the other group members (Inzlicht & Aronson, 2006). The stereotype is a generalization that allows relating the unknown to the known in order to facilitate understanding of the world. The content of stereotypes may be positive or negative, while the bias is always negative. It relies instead on personal beliefs that are relatively conscious, while the stereotype is based on semi-automatic categorizations, and is thus less likely to be controlled.

The stereotype is shared. But there are also individual stereotypes; in this case it is a personal stereotype. They have a double function: they characterize a group, but they also serve to distinguish it from others (Davis & Quarells, 2005). This essay will be discussing three stereotypes. It will explore stereotypes and highlight the implications of these stereotypes on the social and individual level. Furthermore, the discussion will also be identifying each individual stereotype and present the rationale behind it.
