Socialization

The influence of formative years on our later years

If we look at the article “Poverty is poison”, the first line of this article would provide a deep insight of this topic. In the first line, the writer says that “Poverty in early childhood poisons the brain “. This shows that whatever situation that an individual face in its early years shapes many aspects of the personality of that individual. A student who sits in class without even thinking about getting up, a little girl who dreams of a princess dress, a young man's parents asked his companion, who knows how to play, year after year, the role of ideal son, a group of travelers tight against each other in a subway train, who manage to not get excited: no such behavior is natural, all are the result of learning standards and identities weave in society. This learning is socialization. In learning, the major factor that cannot be ignored is of influence. There is an influence of our past years in what we learn today. Socialization is a process. It begins at birth, continues throughout life and does not end with death. Primary socialization takes place during childhood. Then there is secondary socialization, which starts from, adolescence to late life. Several agents or bodies remain involved in the various stages of these processes. The family is probably the instance of the more significant influence. Every family socializes the child according to his way of life, which can be influenced by social, economic and historical society in which it is inserted. Some authors have noted the differences in socialization practices, depending on the class to which he belongs. However, it loses its monopoly influence over the child beyond a very young age. The school, peer groups (friends), professional organizations, companies, trade unions, churches, associations, the media also contribute to the learning of values, norms and social roles, in a way that can either extend or contradict the family socialization (Philip, 2004).

From the standpoint of social psychology, gender has a strongly influenced by cultural norms stipulating that men should do, and that - women and social information, inspiring people, how great is the difference between men and women. The theory of normative and informational pressure partly explains how we learn these rules and what makes us stick to them. Socialization is the process by which a person learns appropriate behaviors in society, values, etc. The rudiments of differential socialization can be seen even before birth. What do you think, why the parents want to know who they will have - a boy or a girl? These inquiring minds are ...
