CHAPTER 4: ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION

Analysis

At the highest rates all over the world the mental health disorders are increasing with every passing year. There is an estimate of 450 million people who have been suffering from the behavioural disorders or metal disorders. The research has shown that most of the population who are suffering from behavioural disorders and mental disorders are prevalent in the prisons of different countries. The secondary research findings have proved that there is one in every five Canadians who are experiencing mental health disorders. Those prisoners need proper treatment for their mental health disorders but they are unable to get. In Canada's correlational facilities, there are many people who prevalent with the highest rates of mental heath illness. These mental health disorders among imprisoned people in Canada are psychosis, depression, anxiety, and substance-related disorders. In the Canadian prisons there is lack of proper diagnosis, lack of medicine, ill-informed prison staff and social isolation that increases mental health problems among prisoners.

According to the characteristics and gender wise female and male prisoners are facing mental issues due to many factors and these factors are Alcohol Abuse, Drug Abuse, Appears mentally disordered, Emotional/mental health requiring immediate attention, Reporting emotional/mental health problems, Recent mental health intervention/hospitalization, Shows signs of depression, and Previous suicide attempt, and may be suicidal. These factors are being proved by the secondary research findings. Below is the table showed the reasons Canadian prisoners for being in some mental illness.

In the above table it is depicted that female prisoners are more in the mental disorders in the Canadian prisons than male prisons.

In the above mentioned table, the suicidal rates are mentioned in the canadian prisons and this is proved that the male prisons in the canadian prisons are involved more in the suicidal attempt than females.

The table below showed that female inmates in the Canadian prisons are of highest rates that faced mental problems like Schizophrenia, and depression.

According to the secondary research findings, there are 73% of the female prisoners in Canadian prisons in comparison to the male inmates who faced mental health problems. In the federal prisons there are 61% of female prisoners, in the local jail of Canada, female prisoners are 73%. The research proved that female prisoners who are suffering from mental illness after imprisonment are three times more than male prisoners.
