Si Phone: A Phone for the Elderly (Research Report)
Introduction
Communication is a vital process for the development of the individual and the development of society. Modern times have seen great advancements in types of communication. Science has multiplied the number of possibilities for remote communication, and the media has all but popularized each and every form in their own unique way. Early cell phones, bulky and heavy were rare and a sign of success. Today, on the other hand, owning a cell phone is no longer a luxury. It has become a necessity. The world truly is at one's fingertips.
According to text, a network or mobile telephony is a system of telephones. These function by combining a network of transmitting-receiving stations, of a set radius, and a series of switching exchanges. This simple joining allows communication between portable telephone terminals or between mobile computers and phones using traditional landlines. The mobile, or cell phone, is an electronic communication device with the same basic capabilities of a telephone landline. In addition to being portable, it does not require wires for connection to the telephone network. It must be noted that the communication process is not as simple as described above. Modern telephonic conversations are much more complex, involving multiplexing, digitizing and even forms of encryption (Charness & Sabel, 2001). There are numerous benefits to owning a cell phone. The most important of these is that it helps to close the gap. Through owning a cell phone, one can quickly contact the person or institution of desire, no matter how far east or west, and in almost any geographical location one can find them in. This is possible because this device is completely portable.
It is also a fact that having so many choices of communication and the recent addition in the form of entertainment in one instrument only adds to the device's functionality (Kubik, 2008). The general population has so gotten used to having a cell phone that when deprived of the technology, they often complain of feeling empty, or even naked. There was a time when people would wait months on end, merely waiting for a hand written letter. Today, take away someone's cell phone and they feel they have been subtracted from society and cut off from the rest of the world.
Keeping the above in mind, cell phones are extremely popular for the youth. With the addition of games, wireless internet connectivity and social media, the youth f today are continually in touch with the world. This does not mean that once you age you are unable to do the same. With the Si Phone, a specific segment in the consumer and business market is being targeted.
