Sadism and masochism are meant to be inconsistent state during which erotic satisfaction is achieved with the involvement of enslavement, domination and humiliation and can also cause physical pain. The sadist is known to be the donor while the masochism is known to be the recipient of the cruel or degrading acts. The two abnormalities are usually joined together and found in one person reflecting the behavior of a single individual. This is just not a form of pleasure but it comes in with broad range of cruel and nonsexual acts. Psychologists have studies and reviewed different forms of non sexual sadism (Langevin, 1982, pp 427). Choosing this topic will help us in being informative about this mental illness and also acknowledge us about how sadism and masochism are linked together and the way they shape the human behavior. Behavior

The behavior of the patients with sadism and masochism can be divided into two kinds that is psychological and physical behavior. Most of the practitioners of these behaviors enjoy both the behaviors, only some of the individuals are specific with what kind they enjoy. There are certain groups who are prone to more of the physical side of the behavior. These physical behaviors are then divided into further categories that are known as physical discipline, bondage, body alteration, sensory deprivation, intense stimulation. The intensity of these behaviors ranges from different individuals. The individuals with these behaviors deal with people in such way that they would try to escape so to avoid that they tie them down making the person completely immobilized (Hucker., 2012).

The treatment of the disorder in past

In the past sadomasochism was neither a sin nor a sickness (Bullough & Bullough, 1977). These behaviors can be considerably seen in the ancient marriage manuals. The first case of the sadomasochism was reported during the late 15 century that occurred as curiosity in medical and than it became a problem. But it is studied that this sexual behavior did not exist before the 15th century and doesn't have a historical background, neither there is any information about these behavior if they were done because of erotic purpose or unambiguously (Moser, 2012, p. 47-61)

There are certain treatments and therapies that exist for sadism and masochism. The psychoanalysts and the behavior therapists both have been concerned and cautious about treating the sadomasochism. But it has been a tensing factor for the behavior therapist about the aversive conditions that the result could increase the strength of sadism or masochism behavior.
