Research Proposal: Green Footprint Business
Introduction
Promoting eco-friendly, physical distribution and packaging is a growing concern among businesses, realizing the crucial nature of environmental hazards faced by the planet. Our company realizes the importance of incorporating sound, eco-friendly policies and systems that can result in a “greener” and “cleaner” environment, giving quantifiable, and cost and community benefits to the entire society. Two of the major initiatives in this regard, are the use of recycling used corrugated boxes and metal scrap. In this proposal, we seek to identify such measures while assessing the benefits they provide.
Aim of the Research
The primary aim of this study will be to analyze the cost and community benefits for a distribution company to be eco-friendly.
Research Questions
What are the ways in which the business can adopt eco-friendly policies, while remaining profitable?
What are the benefits to the community as a result of such initiatives?
What are the benefits to the company's cost-reduction agenda, in relation to being “greener”?
What are the different ways in which the wholesale company can provide for eco-friendly measures in its warehousing and distribution services?
Literature Review
In the current era, the standards of a “good business” are undergoing transformations. Now, consumers do not only demand quality and low price; but also are concerned about the ways in which a product is manufactured and distributed (Wilson, 2000). They are also increasingly concerned if the environment of the society was at stake while the product was being manufactured/ distributed (Holliday, Pepper, 2001). These concerns and awareness have led to a “go green” trend in business sectors across the world, where companies are forced to adopt eco-friendly ways of carrying out their business while fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities. Hence, businesses incorporate environmental responsibility into their manufacturing and distribution or else, they risk being blown out by eco-friendly competition (www.nautilus.org).
