Racial Profiling vs. Criminal Profiling

Introduction

At the very early age, every one taught us that justice should be, and is, blind. The scales associated with justice must not be tainted or violated by immaterial stuff. Eventually, court is responsible for ensuring that justice should prevail. But, when one talks about the event happening prior to the proceedings of court, when the process of investigation is in progress, profiling could be the best available tool. It is worth the implementation, by the investigators who are putting in efforts for understanding “why, what, when, where, how and who” as they are relating to the crime (Carmen, 2007).

Before any legal or regulatory authority could detain a person lawfully, the authority should consider providing reasonable suspicion for believing that a crime has been conducted, about to be conducted or it is in the state of occurrence (Sandy 2003). The standards of reasonable suspicion varies from regulatory authority to another but it is usually coming down to the believes of officers that the criminal activity has been done and the detained person has useful information regarding crime that has been suspected.
