Different Approaches to Quality Management applicable in Hypnos
There are different approaches to quality management. However, three approaches are most commonly used due to their utility and effectiveness to businesses of all size and nature (service or manufacturing). One is to create the ultimate TQM environment by creating a competition between among departments and employees. This approach will be of special interest to Hypnos because its senior management is looking to enter into consumer quality beds market after winning a business from John Lewis. Second approach is utilizing Pareto Charts. Although, paying attention to statistics is a good approach towards uncovering the patterns and then working towards them to get the most out of them, charting is a good approach for clarifying causes versus their effects using Pareto Chart. This chart is based on the basic principle that 20% of the problems businesses face actually give birth to the 80% of the defects in the products. John Lewis has given the business to Hypnos just because its management just discovered a big flaw in the product their previous suppliers was providing to them, that's why they discovered to give business to Hypnos and Hypnos won a big customer. Keeping this thing in mind, Hypnos can utilize the Pareto chart in order to minimize the defects by focusing on those 20% problems which are creating 80% defects. The third approach to quality management is ISO which is used for setting standards for consistency in maintaining and improving quality of products, organizational systems, and organizational processes. When organizations have an objective way to evaluate the quality of a supplier processes, the risk of doing business with that supplier is greatly reduced, and if the quality standards are the same for everyone, trade between companies from different countries can be enhanced significantly. Hypnos is looking to expand into consumer market after winning a business from John Lewis and needs to be increasingly concerned in effectively meeting the needs of its customers, but Hypnos do not have, in general, the quality literature which can indicate them how, exactly, the quality of their products and services can be achieved and maintained (Garcia, 2009, Pp. 25).
