Psychosocial Work Environment

Abstract

Over the past decade the study of positive states has gained increasing salience within the field of work environment from a psychosocial and psychological perspective. Proponents of positive psychology claim that the study of positive psychosocial phenomena has largely been marginalized within a mainstream psychology that positive psychologists regard as negatively biased. According to positive psychologists, positive psychological states are associated with a series of valuable outcomes that would be beneficial in most personal and organizational contexts. However, in order to realize these positive outcomes, positive states need to be studied in their own right and accordingly, this is the main aim of positive psychology within the work environment as it relates to work related stress in a number of ways (Turner, 2005).
