Introduction

Biography of Professional Experience

My first inspiration of a leader came from my sister. She has led a true example of leader in my family after death of my father. Today, she is a successful Psychiatrist and teaching at Texas A&M College of Medicine and also practicing her profession at Menninger Clinic in Texas. Its her footsteps, that I also decided to follow and worked day and night to become a good and able Nurse to help patients in recovery and support them medically and emotionally during their stay at hospital. For that purpose I pursued my bachelors degree in nursing from the Adelphi University and completed various course works as well during this time period. I started working as a Nurse at New York University Medical Center and I was placed in a mother-baby ward and after four years of consistent performance, senior management moved me to Newborn Intensive ward. It was the time, when I got this very opportunity to meet various leaders who truly inspired me and made me love my job and I also observed that this technique has a positive affect on Families and Patients as well. In the beginning I was not confident of myself that if I was ready to perform all duties and responsibilities of a nurse adequately in such a unit, which requires Intensive care of patients. In addition, I believe I had still not gained proper experience to deal with patients independently. But gradually I had the most amazing experience of my profession and picked my work very quickly and got promoted from staff nurse to a charge nurse. At this stage of my profession, I actually learned the importance of team work as I had a team of nurses under me and I was required to guide them on duty, this job role really enhanced my leadership quality and style. After gaining such enormous experience from my short time spam of work I decided to purse my degree of Masters in Nursing Administration.

Inspiration of Nursing at Work

During my professional experience, I came across a lot of senior nurses who trained me and acted like my mentors throughout the process of becoming a registered nurse. I got a chance to witness various leadership styles at work that furthermore added into my experience. I personally think that all those mentors and leadership styles actually resembled my sister's leadership style.
