Introduction

William Wordsworth (1770-1850) worked all his life to writing the Prelude, extensive autobiographical work of eight thousand lines, which was not published until his death in 1850. The book takes its title from the fact that the poem was supposed to be originally a preamble to a composition of philosophical inspiration, which would be called The Recluse, but never saw the day, the except the second part of the proposed mural. Monopolizing the attention of the poet, The Prelude quickly took on considerable proportions: he had two books in 1799, thirteen in 1805, and fourteen to the poet's death (Abrams, 2006).

The Prelude" (her major work) exposes us, either in direct narrative, either in the form of allusions, most of the influences that shaped his life. During the summer of 1790, he made in the French Alps, Switzerland and Italy, a journey on foot that gave him (as well as the enthusiasm of revolutionary France) most vivid memories.
