The Authorship of Peter 1

Introduction

There are 2 epistles written by Peter. These are part Bible section (New Testament). The work is also known as Catholic Epistles. According to historic traditions and data, the authorship of Peter is attributed to Peter of St. Peter; however, these claims have been challenged. According to some traditions, the book was probably completed in Babylon, Rome. It was written primarily for the Christians. According to traditions, the work was compiled during 64 AD. The purpose of the book was to support Christians, who were facing continues persecution from enemies of Christ. These suffering were explained as test of Christian faith. Peter has called his fellow Christians to place their hope and faith in God, who was the raiser of Christ (Ehrman, 2000).

Peter and His Life

Simon was the original of Peter. The name Simon is also very commonly found in the Bible (New Testament). Jona was the father of Peter. Andrew was a younger brother of Peter and he was the first one to brought Peter to Jesus. Peter lived in Bethsaida, which was located at Western part of Galilee (Carson & Douglas, 2005). Philip also belonged to this region. Peter's was probably very young, when his father died and both the brothers were raised under the guardianship of Zebedee. Both the brothers had the benefit of learning about religion. They were provided religious training and they also learnt about Scriptures. They were raised in leanings of prophecies regarding the raising of Messiah.

At the time when Christ took over public ministry, Peter was settled at Capernaum. At that time he was probably aged around 30. He had a large house, where he was able to provide shelter to Jesus, his own family, to mother of his wife and his brother. It ...
