Introduction

The organization development was characterized as rational, achievement oriented, devoted to the company, and compliant with company policies and demands. If junior executives were encouraged to get involved in the community, they would. If they were told to move to an- other community, they would. Refusing a career transfer to remain in one's community usually was not considered an option. In short, organizational norms were assumed to override personal values in affecting behavior

Norms are rules of conduct that specify what should or should not be done in specific situations. Because of their specificity, they often are defined by authority figures (e.g., officials of an employing organization). Values are broad conceptions of the desirable and serve as standards for behavior . Sociologists disagree on the relation between values and norms. Blake and Davis ( 1964 ) contend that norms are more important than values in determining behavior. In fact, they recommend that values be abandoned as causal agents and be recognized, instead, as sheer constructs by which we attempt to fill in the subjective linkages in the analysis of social causation., on the other hand, believes that personal values mediate the influence of norms on behavior. That is, when norms and personal values support each other, values heighten the effects of norms; when they conflict, values lessen the influence of norms.

Counseling as a Professional Development Tool

The most beautiful of all creations is a mind. To understand and comprehend phenomena while executing the same as and when required are the most dominant of features possessed by the brain. To estimate man outwardly, physically, is to judge a temple from the exterior, is to decide upon it by the order of its architecture, the bevel of its stones, the greatness of its workmanship, without entering its shrine, seeing its worship, or studying its ritual. So to judge man is as if we should pronounce on the supernatural claims of Christ by an inquiry into his human features and Jewish characteristics, in perfect oversight of the subject matter of the question. Man is to rank according to his spiritual constitution, and that it is the office of philosophy, and philosophy alone, to inquire into. We must go within the mind, see its structure and appliances, before we can know the dignity of the race. If this is denied us, if these portals are locked against us, we can only remain mute till the key shall be brought to us.

Counseling is a subject depending upon a set of options. To adequate someone requires a mastermind approach. Not all of us are good preachers or teachers, in the same context not all of us are good listeners or students as well but it takes an entire process equipped with research and study of the person or the job to be taken.
