Introduction

One Hundred Years of Solitude is a novel about the Spanish language, written by the novelist, short story writer and journalist Colombian Gabriel García Márquez, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. The book was written in 1965 in Mexico and published two years later, in May 1967 in Buenos Aires, in Argentina, by Editorial Sudamericana eight thousand copies. It is considered a masterpiece of the Spanish-American literature in particular and the universal literature in general. This is one of the most widely read novels and is currently the most translated in other languages. It is often cited as the most representative text of magical realism, making together several literary genres and juxtaposing a historical and cultural references found likely to irrational or supernatural elements. It narrates the journey of the Buendia family for six generations, living in the imaginary village of Macondo and driven to live a hundred years of solitude by the prophecy of the gypsy Melquíades. It therefore goes through the wars and conflicts specific to the history of Colombia. To date, nearly 30 million copies of the book have been sold worldwide since it first appeared. It has been translated into 35 languages (Palacios, Marco, p. 36-48).

The characters of the Buendia family succeed with similar names that contribute to the loss of individuality and identification of common features. Males are called Jose Arcadio and Aureliano, and the family branch lasts only the first, and that the offspring of the second truncated forever. The last of the dynasty is eaten by ants and means the disappearance of the family, the son of Aureliano. Each name implies typical features (the Aurelian are shy, the José Arcadio, impulsive).
