Introduction

The murder trial of OJ Simpson investigated the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, ex-wife of Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman. Simpson, former football star and actor, was charged with both murders in the year 1994. OJ Simpson was found not guilty in a criminal trial after an extensive, contentious and broadly covered by media. Later, in 1997, OJ Simpson was convicted of the deaths by a civil court.

Discussion and Analysis

In 1992 OJ Simpson had divorced his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson who was accused of having mistreated. Before midnight on June 12, 1994 Nicole was found dead with her friend Ronald Goldman, who worked as a model and sought to carve out a career as an actor. Both had been stabbed at Nicole's home, situated at Centinela Avenue, in the Brentwood district of Los Angeles (California). The children of Nicole Simpson were asleep on the top floor of the house when the killings occurred. Evidence found at the crime scene suggested that Simpson was the person behind the double murder (Bugliosi, 1997).

On January 23, 1995, OJ Simpson was tried on two counts of murder. He pleaded guilty to both and brought their own Dream Team, a team of lawyers who charged relentless and very high fees, including the legendary defenders of civil litigation Alan Dershowitz, F. Lee Bailey, Robert Kardashian, Johnnie Cochran and Robert Shapiro. His first task was to obstruct the jury selection and ensure that their members would be favorable. Lawyers, with Cochran at the helm, determined from the outset that ethnicity and race would constitute crucial factors in securing a guilty verdict for Simpson.
