Nursing Care for an Obese Patient with Type 2 Diabetes
Nursing Care for an Obese Patient with Type 2 Diabetes
Introduction
The care rendered by a nurse plays a tremendous and vital role in treating any patient. Same is the case with Type 2 Diabetes patients. The purpose of this paper is to discuss and analyse the nursing care for an obese patient with type 2 diabetes. The case is the patient whom I cared six months ago. The name of the patient was Jenny De'Flora. Her age was 45 years, and she was an obese patient with type 2 diabetes. The major problem with this patient was the high blood pressure (BP).
Discussion
The Type 2 Diabetes results of insulin resistance and insulin secretion impairment. It occurs in approximately 90% of patients with diabetes. First diagnosis of diabetes is not difficult and is usually based on the observation readily noticeable symptoms such as those listed above. Type 2 diabetes is much more difficult to diagnose. Symptoms of this disease are difficult to grasp, and may not raise suspicion for a long time. It is approximated that more than 50 percent of patients with type 2 diabetes are unaware of their illness. Typical signs of disease include weight loss, skin infections such as athlete's foot, dry mouth, itching of the genital, or trouble seeing.
Type 2 Diabetes reveals a more mature age, usually in the elderly and is the most common type of the disease, as it is responsible for about 90 percent of all cases. The basis of treatment is here aim to lower high blood sugar condition. However, an important role is also played by complications, which can be unpleasant consequence of this disease, and this refers to heart attacks or stroke. Therefore, the elements in treatment must be: tight control of blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels. In the treatment of type 2 diabetes play an important role in both medical supplies such as oral medications and insulin as well as exercise and proper diet. The latter elements are of particular importance when it comes to obese people that by reducing its weight by a well-chosen set of physical exercise and proper diet may not have to take drugs.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. In patients affected both activity and insulin secretion, and the dominant role may be played by one or other irregularity. Patients are less sensitive to the effects of insulin (insulin resistance). Typically, in the initial stage of the disease is insulin secreted in more but not enough to increase insulin resistance, the body needs. After some time, the damage due to the release of drops overburdened islet ß cells. The exact cause of the development of these disorders is not yet known. Treatment usually involves weight reduction, use of diabetic diet, exercise, and oral antidiabetic agents, in some patients after a course of the disease is needed insulin. This form of diabetes often escapes diagnosis for many years, because hyperglycemia is not high enough to ...
