Neisseria Gonorrhoeae

Neisseria Gonorrhoeae

Introduction

Gonorrhea is one of the oldest Sexually Transmitted Infections "ITS". So anyone who has unprotected sexual activity with a sick person can get it. In addition, the infection can be transmitted from mother to baby during delivery and cause big health problems to the newborn (Starnbach & Nadia, 2008). The clap or gonorrhea is among the world's most common sexually transmitted diseases. Trigger the bacterium Neisseria Gonorrhoeae (gonococcus) (Hoover & Bohm, 2008).

Discussion

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease; the cause is the bacterium Neisseria Gonorrhoeae (gonorrhea). Gonorrhea has been known for centuries, the world's 62 million are infected each year assumed (Hammett, 2009). Younger adults who are sexually active and often change their sexual partner, women and men alike, are among the persons at risk. A gonorrhea infection at any time, even after surviving the disease it is possible to be infected with it. The incidence of infection has declined in recent decades (Hoover & Bohm, 2008).

Background

Although the exact date of this infection cannot be accurately determined at the historical record, the disease is prevalent for centuries. In articles of traditional Chinese medicine, are written over 2 500 years in the reign of Chinese emperor Ho-Ti Ang, also known as the "Yellow Emperor" who is a symbol of that culture, document the disease (Ryan & Ray, 2004). But Hippocrates, the most famous physician of antiquity and the father of medicine, makes one of the first scientific descriptions of urethral infection (Hammett, 2009). Then Galen, a Greek physician, Hippocrates described confirms and gives the name of gonorrhea gonorrhea's term comes from Greek, which literally means "flow of seed" in those days it was thought that the urethral discharge pus associated with the disease contained semen (Starnbach & Nadia, 2008). The views of Galen transcended European medicine for over a thousand years. For 1879, Ludwig Albert Neisser, German bacteriologist doctor discovered the bacterium that causes gonorrhea. So the International Bacteriological Society cataloged this type of bacteria with their name Neisser (Johnson, 2000).

The Reasons for Gonorrhea

The cause of gonorrhea infection with the pathogen Neisseria Gonorrhoeae is a bacterium, also known as gonorrhea. The gonococci are settling in the mucous membranes, preferably in the urogenital tract of transmission of the virus takes place exclusively during sexual intercourse, either through unprotected sex or through specific practices such as anal or oral sex. It also can be used for transmission of the virus during birth from an infected mother to come to the baby. Since the bacteria to survive outside the body cannot, for example, an infection in public toilets is very unlikely (Starnbach & Nadia, 2008).

Mothers who have gonorrhea can infect their children during childbirth. The newborn can get a serious inflammation of the eyes, which if untreated, can lead to blindness. To prevent this, the newborn silver nitrate was dropped into the eye (Crédé'sche prophylaxis). Since then, the excitation spectrum changed: Gonococcal play in the industrialized countries only about 0.04 percent of the cases in a role as a cause of congenital eye ...
