Health Care Access as a determinant of health

The social determinants of health help to determine the health and well being of an individual. Inequalities are faced by a particular population group by health care providers. The author has stated about how justice can prevail.

Summary

The close link between health and social status is commonly known as the fact that people of higher social class. They are healthier and live longer than those of lower social classes. It is true that we use the income, education or other socioeconomic indicators, and whatever the health outcome used. Health improves with increasing social class. Not only poorest members of society have poor health, but health status decreases as one descends the socioeconomic ladder, which has implications for the total population (McGibbon, 2008).

Reflection

Social determinants of health determine the social and economic conditions under which people live. Most health problems can be attributed to socio economic conditions of people. However, health policies have dominated solutions focused on treatment of diseases, interventions without adequately incorporate the "causes of causes" such as, for example, actions on the social environment. Throughout the world, disadvantaged people have less access to basic health resources and health system as a whole. This is how sick and die more frequently than those who belong to groups that more privileged social positions (McGibbon, 2008). This becomes more critical in some of the most vulnerable.

Critical thinking

Poverty is a social issue and education is vital for avoiding poverty, improving career prospects and achieving equality of opportunity.
