He was arrested because he always resists Satan's temptations and belief. Then Jesus was brought before the Roman Governor who also gave him the decision of death with the consent of his crowd.

Jesus was then handed over to the Roman soldiers who tortured him to such an extent that he became unrecognizable. He was then presented again before the Roman Governor who again handed over him for more torture as per public desire. Then Jesus was given the cross and he was ordered to carry it through the streets of Jerusalem all the way up to Golgotha. At Golgotha, he was nailed to that cross and put to death. In this movie, Gibson has focused on the last twelve hours of the Jesus' life that who Jesus bravely fought against his enemies and was put to death. But he was successful in his mission.
