In epidemiology, the association measures try to estimate the extent to which two phenomena are related. This association does not necessarily imply causality. Examples of measures of association are:
- The relative risk used in the study cohort. Compare the occurrence or cumulative incidence of an event among those exposed to a risk factor and those without.
- The rate ratio, comparing incidence rates, that is the speed at which a given phenomenon occurs among persons exposed and not exposed to a risk factor.
