Managing Performance

Introduction

A decade has passed since performance management was introduced into schools in India as a formal process while the implementation of a variety of performance management systems in higher education institutions dates back to 1992. Performance management is a process originating in the private sector which has subsequently been adapted by the public sector into an audit mechanism for improving the performance, productivity, accountability and transparency of public services. Every school aspires to achieve an outstanding standard of education for its pupils, staff and school community. School environments in the twenty-first century are becoming more geared towards engaging with their communities and parental groups as a means of raising the standards across learning and teaching. The school (Priceless Pearls School) is no exception to this. Our shared vision, as a whole-school community, is to be 'Outstanding', offering a strong Indian ethos in an 'I can' culture. This is supported by consistently high quality staff and the systematic development of English and Mathematics skills delivered through high-quality planning and assessment alongside inclusive targeted intervention.

A key driver in achieving this within Priceless Pearls School is an excellent leadership at all levels. This primarily refers to the head teacher, although in every outstanding school it is a team effort and combines the senior leadership team and the governing body working collaboratively. Indicators of outstanding leadership are that the leadership team and governors have a consistent vision and are fully committed to setting a clear direction for the success of the school. This vision embraces an understanding of staff roles and effective teamwork. It is within this effective teamwork that the heads rigorously challenge and evaluate the work of the school whenever it proves necessary.

Literature Review

Business Process Management

On the technical level, we can talk about integration of Workflow Management Systems with various Knowledge Management Systems. The paper explains some key terms, reviews related work and identifies common aspects. Next, we define outstanding issues within the problem domain and suggest possible solutions. The business process management has fully developed autonomous disciplines. However, for a school to utilize them to a maximum, BPM has to be introduced in a coordinated way. This is a subject of Business Process Oriented Knowledge Management. The paper has synthesized a number of common concepts described in extant literature dealing with the subject. The challenge lays in their further development and an appropriate application. In particular, we operate with flexibility of workflow models, facilitating collaboration, organizational learning, advanced decision making, and process monitoring. Another topic introduces human aspects of BPM. For BPM in education, tasks are typically facilitated rather than automated. It is proposed that an employment of retroactive workflows together with process mining. Speaking about history of Business Process Management, first we have to glance back, to appreciate the contribution to rationalization and organization of work FW. Taylor and H. Gantt have made at the beginning of last century (Haynes, Wragg & Chamberlin, 2003).
