Develop a business case for a new product, service or process built upon researching the market.

The purpose of this study is to develop a business case for the prevention of dengue in a community. Dengue fever, more simply known as dengue, is a contagious disease caused by the tropical virus Dengue. It presents with fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, in addition to the characteristic rash similar to measles. In a small percentage of cases it develops a hemorrhagic life-threatening fever, with thrombocytopenia, bleeding and fluid loss, which can progress to circulatory shock and death. The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes, especially the species aegypti (Whitehorn, Farrar, 2010, p. 161-173). The virus exists in four serotypes different (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4) and generally the infection with a type ensures immunity to life for that type, while involves only a brief and not lasting immunity to the others. The further infection with another serotype entails an increased risk of serious complications. Since there is no effective vaccine, prevention is achieved by the elimination of mosquitoes and their habitats, to limit the exposure to the risk of transmission (Whitehorn, Farrar, 2010, p. 161-173).

Therapy is supportive and is based on hydration in the case of a mild to moderate form of the disease and, in more severe cases, the intravenous administration of fluids and on the blood transfusion. The first description of the disease can be found in 1779 and its etiology has been demonstrated in the early twentieth century. The incidence of dengue has grown exponentially since the 60's, with around 50-100 million people infected each year, and is endemic in 110 countries (Whitehorn, Farrar, 2010, p. 161-173).

In this paper, we will develop a community project for the prevention of dengue in which we will address the issues related to the effects that the disease can have on individuals in a community being affected by it. For this purpose, we will articulate an intervention plan through which we will strive to cure and prevent the disease in the community, as well as, try to eliminate the threat of the disease. As a part of this assignment, we will also prepare the budget of this community project for the prevention of dengue. This will show the build-up of the budget from a zero base including all significant items. For the purposes of this exercise, we would consider both an 'optimal' budget for their service and a budget to show how the service may function if the budget were reduced by 10%.

Review current theories that support the business case.

History

The first case of dengue fever ever recorded was probably Chinese medical encyclopedia built during the Jin dynasty, between 265 and 420, in reference to a "watery poison" associated with insects flying. Several outbreaks have been reported during the seventeenth century, but the first documented is that, between 1779 and 1780 hit Africa, North America and much of 'Asia (Guzman, Halstead, et al, 2010, ...
