In 1935, a neurosurgeon, Almeida Lima, conducted the experiment on first individual, employing insertions to devastate the brain tissue. Motivated by this research, Walter Freeman and James Watts tailored procedure and initiated lobotomy in U.S. This process, also referred as standard lobotomy, was conducted extensively, and shortly its advantageous and disadvantageous effects became clear.
