It is a surgical operation concerning incision into the lobe of the brain, previously employed to treat mental illness. 'Lobotomy' refers cutting a lobe of the brains which are tracts of nerve fibers that link different areas of the brain. It is an operational surgery employed to improve signs of psychological disease. At present, it is employed generally in North America than in another place.

In 1935, a neurosurgeon, Almeida Lima, conducted the experiment on first individual, employing insertions to devastate the brain tissue. Motivated by this research, Walter Freeman and James Watts tailored procedure and initiated lobotomy in U.S. This process, also referred as standard lobotomy, was conducted extensively, and shortly its advantageous and disadvantageous effects became clear. Similar to other brain surgery, lobotomy was linked with perils of virus, blood loss, and an increased probability of increasing attacks. Additionally, it also became obvious that it changed the conduct and character of patients, and this steadily restricted its exercise, which more turn down in the year of 1960 However, the usage of neurosurgery for curing mental illness has continual to the present day and is still available in several centers all over the world. Former processes took many modifications, as neurosurgeons required to diminish their harmful and irremediable adverse impacts. These alterations and progress resulted in the neurosurgical measures that are presently in exercise these days. As more operations were conducted it slowly became apparent that the patients that benefited most had mainly behavior and mental illness. Consequently, the endeavor of existing processes is to devastate those regions of the brain thought to be significant in the ruling of apprehension and nervousness. (Gostin, 1980)

My Lobotomy is Howard's personal account of his life before and after receiving a lobotomy at age 12. The narrative is appealing, inspirational, and very well enlightened .He has a good, clear writing style that is suitable for someone writing their first account.
