CHAPTER 4: RESULTS

Introduction

In this chapter detailed research results have been given.

Research questions

The qualitative questions include:

(RQ 1) What are the perceptions of healthcare leaders and employees regarding the competencies required for effective change management within their organizations?

(RQ 2) What are the views of healthcare leaders and employees regarding the factors that are important in acquiring leadership competencies?

(RQ 3) What challenges do healthcare leaders and employees face regarding implementing effective change?

The quantitative research questions include:

(RQ 1) How will the identified leadership competencies required during times of change relate to the leaders' experiences in Oman's healthcare system in the Muscat region?

(RQ 2) How will the identified leadership competencies required during times of change relate to the leader's educational qualifications in Oman's healthcare system in the Muscat region?

Hypotheses for this part of the study will reflect absent relationships as the null, and the presence of relationships between the variables as the alternative hypotheses as listed below.

H1o: There is no relationship between the identified leadership competencies and the leader's educational background in Oman's healthcare system in the Muscat region.

H1: There is a relationship between the identified leadership competencies and the leader's educational qualifications in Oman's healthcare system in the Muscat region.

H2o: There is no relationship between the identified leadership competencies and the leaders' years of experience in Oman's healthcare system in the Muscat region.

H2: There is a relationship between the identified leadership competencies and the leader's years of experience in Oman's healthcare system in the Muscat region.

Review of Data Collection Procedures

The researcher had analyzed the qualitative part of the study using content analysis. This type of analysis provides an image of the participants' perceptions, feelings, experiences, ideas, concerns, and attitudes (Jacobs 2001). For the proposed study, the content analysis process involved a few steps. The researcher had transcribed and carefully read the interviews for completeness. The researcher has referred to the tapes of the interviews in case of vagueness in words or statements and asked participants to clarify these issues. The researcher exerted increased efforts to clarify words and phrases during the interview.
