The world in which we live today is full of changes, competition, progress and development. The main reason as a result of which these changes and developments are taking place is technological progress and advancements. In this rapidly changing world, only such organizations can survive that thrive on these changes and stay abreast with the latest and up to dated methodologies. In such scenario, it can be stated that factor of leadership and performance management are crucial in corporate arena to gain success and competitive advantage. The factor of leadership is indispensible because it is this factor that guides employees to perform their task, motivate them to achieve the marvels of success. On the other hand, the performance management is significant because it is the performance of the employees that lend a hand to organizations to gain success and attain competitive advantage. The aim and objective of this paper is also to talk about the factors of leadership and performance management. This paper specifically focuses on one industry to explore the practice of leadership and performance management in Papua New Guinea.

The purpose for which the research is to be conducted is to reveal and know about the practice of leadership and performance management in Papua New Guinea. The phenomena of leadership and performance management are essential in every organization and are being implemented and practiced in each and every industry. Therefore, to narrow down the research it is imperative to select an industry so that focus of the research can be kept intact. So, the industry that is selected for this research is retail supermarkets. The ambition of this research is to explore how the leadership is practiced and how the performance of the employees is managed in the supermarkets in Papua New Guinea.

To explore the type of leadership style that is adopted by the management of the leading supermarkets of Papua New Guinea and to reveal various ways in which the task of performance management is done by the management of the leading supermarkets of Papua New Guinea.

To determine the type of leadership style that is portrayed by the management and leaders of the super market in Papua New Guinea
To explore various ways through which the leaders and managers in the supermarket of Papua New Guinea manage performance of their employees
