Introduction

Nurses are subject to a plethora of ethical, lawful and professional duties which are too many to discuss inside this thesis. Therefore the major expert, ethical and legal obligations will be discussed. These three major obligations are generally considered to be to esteem a patient's confidentiality and autonomy and to recognise the duty of care that is was obliged to all patients. These three main obligations are expert obligations, although there are lawful implications if they are broken, thus they are also lawful obligations; ethical concerns originate in contemplation of these duties, such as concern of when they can be broken and they are thus ethical obligations as well.
