The individuals and professionals provide a conceptual framework, a method of practice and a business process to support practitioners and managers in undertaking the key tasks of assessment, planning, intervention and review. It is based on an understanding of children's developmental needs in the context of parental capacity and wider family and environmental factors. It has full regard for current legislation. Because the work with children in need requires skilled use of detailed and complex information, ICS is designed to be supported by an electronic case record system. A key aim of ICS is to provide frontline staff and their managers with the necessary help, through information communication technology (ICT), to record, collate, analyse and output the information required. A range of different professionals are involved in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. Up to 85 percent of children with ADHD also have another condition that affects their development and learning. This means they need help from other professionals to help with these conditions as well. For ADHD to be assessed and treated effectively, there are good communication between the different professionals involved. The best way of ensuring this has been one individual acting as case coordinator or key worker. This individual could be a community paediatrician, educational psychologist or social worker. Parents who are concerned about their child's behaviour often seek advice from their GP first. The GP then refers these children to a specialist children psychiatrist or a paediatrician familiar with ADHD.
