ABSTRACT

In this study, we try to explore the concept of “heavier patients” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “heavier patients” and its relation with “problems and consequences that yield in the lack of performance and quality deliverance of nurses”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “heavier patients” and tries to gauge its effect on “nurses and their assigned tasks and duties”. Finally, the research describes various factors, which are responsible for “the problems that being faced by nurses” and tries to describe the overall effect of “heavier patients” on “nurses”.

IMPACT OF HEAVIER PATIENTS ON NURSES

Nursing and nurses significantly contribute towards the revival and improvement of patient's healthcare and well being. In order to understand the implication of nursing and the reputation the profession holds with reference to the UK context, we shall be discussing the role of nursing in a holistic context. (Fox, 2007)

Purpose of the Study:

The main aim of this paper is to highlight the impacts; repercussions and problems faced by nurses who are assigned an additional job of handling heavier patients and how to go about make changes in the overall environment around the hospital.

The research question for this paper shall be:

What is the impact of heavier patients on nurses?

How are nurses affected?

What problems, disease and repercussions do nurses face while handling patients?

What evidence does the literature have on accounts of handling heavier patients?

What solutions, amendments and resolutions are designed for catering these patients and improving the performance of nurses?

What are the future projections in this area and how do nurses pertain to handle the overall situation regarding heavier patients?

Aiming towards a senior housing solution:

Some elderly people are helped with public utilities, meals, transportation, and still can take advantage of moving to senior housing complex at an affordable price. Most of these assistance programs cost singularly little on your income and assets. There are certain projects where the government assists in paying the rent and are directly subsidized (Fox, 2007). For instance, there are some organizations & housing facilities that accept the seniors' S.S. I. income and pay a small monthly income in exchange to that for unforeseen expenditure; and in addition to that, the government does offer some aid and assistance, in the shape of housing assistance programs, but there number is far less than the original requirement and can cater to only a small number of people who own limited assets (Friedberg, 2000).

Patient Handling Tasks:

The most urgent tasks that have frequently noted and assigned to patients are:

Toileting in bed

Patient transport

Making occupied bed

Reaching, lifting and moving equipment according to the patient's requirement during several different time frames

Performing CPR

Restraining a patient from hurting themselves or becoming problematic for themselves

Standing for long timeframes (Gabris, 2005)
