HYDRAULIC FRACTURING

Environmental impact of Hydraulic Fracturing

Abstract

Problem

As per the U.S energy industry there is a lot of untapped domestic natural gas , in order to get there thousands of gallons of water is required to inject into the ground in order to split open the dense rocked that are holding the deposits. This process refers to as hydraulic fracturing. Many people trigger a debate that this type of drilling can pollute the fresh water supplies that may cause public health concerns, this process is considered to be commercially impracticable and it may lead to chemical spill. Therefore this study describes the hydraulic fracturing, highlighting its history also indicating the existing studies of the environmental effects of the hydraulic fracturing and the potential impacts on the public health and the quality of water.

Challenge

In the high charged and rapid evolving environment, having on point and the most up to environmental and regulatory information is a huge challenge. Since the hydraulic fracturing is very useful in bringing gas and oil to surface from wells, its potential health hazards and environmental impact restricts the U.S. authority from benefiting. The industry is still facing a huge challenge regarding the operations of hydraulic fracturing, due to safety issues. Therefore the challenge which was considered impossible before should be put into practice and needs further research to minimize this impact as much as possible.

Analytical Question

Are there any adverse impacts of hydraulic fracturing making harm to the environment and the public health?

Scope of paper

This review will help identify the best practice by the industries and it will also help to understand how hydro fracturing impacts are managed. The scope of this study will include in hydraulic fracturing the full life span of water, from the attainment of the water through the incorporation of water and definite fracturing to the stages of post fracturing together with the management of produced and flow back water and its eventual disposal and treatment (Gregory, 2011, pp.181).

Possibility

In this study we will review potential environmental issues associated with hydraulic fracturing such as the risks for groundwater, Methane/Vapour Intrusion, Potential Air Pollution Emissions, Noise Pollution and potential water contamination. All the happening concerning hydraulic fracturing including its history is also determined. We will also emphasize on the public health concerns regarding it. In particular we will consider all the impacts on environment caused by the hydraulic fracturing, along with the current debate going on relating to the application of hydraulic fracturing. In conclusion we determine that by carrying out more researches the adverse impact can be reduced. The judgements made in this paper were clear and concise, emphasizing the debate between the individual with and against of environmental hazards of hydraulic fracturing. The use, value, and legitimacy of paper is that the paper will give future insights to research more regarding the adverse effects of hydraulic fracturing.
