Human growth and development stages

Introduction

An age-old question, which most people have considered at any juncture in their lives, is "why are we the way we are"? Unfortunately, I can't hint you in on the answer to that question in a really authoritative way, but I can tell you about the work I have been doing to determine how my Personality Type got developed.

Critical thinking was created in me when I was able to endorse, value, and realise my individual personality. Once, I realised the significance of critical thinking I felt cushy and assured to utilise my various perspectives and appeal to work, and included it at all level. My sense of critical thinking welcomed the uniqueness of my look out for high standards of fulfillment (Habermas, 2006, 63). And assuredly I dispensed with all these endeavors fully.

In practice my mother applied the critical thinking aspect because of the following reason. Her thinking values demonstrate a style of managing and organising which is less hierarchical. The less hierarchical style is expressed as comfort in relations, small differences between her and not so strict and formal organisational plans (Gouldner, 2003, 16).

This style of bringing me up always made me move with elegance and sureness, and in fact I moved along briskly. Even in difficult and puzzling situations, I was always resolute and focussed. It has elements of a traditional mystery story, but in the end it's a study of personality, reality and so on.

My mother's style of bringing me up was more of the kind of Humanistic View. As a child, I always received unconditional love, had less need to be defensive, and developed more accurate and congruent self-concepts. My unfolding of experience helped towards interactive learning experiences.

The Stages of Human Development

The studies of the Laverson Daniel reflect that the phases of the life do not represent simply a describing of the growing potentials from inside a person but are different from the phases from childhood development to late adulthood development. However the adult development has following divisions: -

Adolescent Adult

This is a time of discovery from the age of 18 years up to the age of 28 years, departure from home, trying new potentials for a career. It is a period of evading of parent's control, of replacement of associates for family, and of identifying oneself as an adult and in Levinson's terms “fashioning an initial life structure” (De Waal, 1996, 29).

By the time adult is 30 years of age it is a time for him to evaluate achievements, possibly asking if the gains are worth the price i.e. a house, a car and a dominant place in service. The satisfaction at this age is not yet attained and maybe some previously ignored alternatives are looked at for achievement. A choice between a simple and self-sufficient way of life is considered.
