Stage 1 is the starting of the doze cycle, and is a somewhat lightweight stage of sleep. In Stage 1, the mind makes high amplitude theta swell, which are very slow mind waves. This time span of doze lasts only a short time (around 5-10 minutes), and if you aroused somebody in the stage, they might report that they weren't actually asleep.
Stage 2
Stage 2 is the second stage of doze and lasts for roughly 20 minutes. The mind starts to make bursts of fast, musical mind signal undertaking renowned as doze spindles.
