Abstract
The main aim of this research was to find out the role of employee motivation and organisational performance. The research in an assessment of the research topic of motivation. Mixed methodology has been used for gathering the responses of employees and management of the United Bank Limited. The survey and interviews were intended to take their responses. In this light, the research has tried to identify the major ranked motivational factors. The analysis from the research findings has showed that satisfaction of job is the major ranked motivational factor. This research therefore can be considered as an introduction for much detailed research to be carried out by other researchers in future on the area of employee motivation.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Background
The motivation of employees has the significant affect on the overall organisational performance. For majority of the organisations, in order to achieve their objectives, it is important to keep their employees satisfied and motivated. The individual quantity and quality of performance is increased when the employees in an organisation are motivated (Goldstein, 2001, p.61). According to the Goldstein's research study, the organizations must consider the nature of employee involvement, as this one variable is probable to predict the ability of an organization to achieve higher results with profitability, workplace safety, customer service, staff retention and productivity (Goldstein, 2001, p.61). This motivation directly affects the operating functions of the organisation. Motivation of employee leads to the satisfaction of job, which plays the major role in improving the overall organisational efficiency. The existence of these aspects cannot be as significant; however, the absence of these aspects might have an adverse influence on the organisational performance. One of the key roles of the manager is to provide motivation to his or her employees (Deleon, 2006, p.401).
