Theory of Behaviour Change to the Development of Health Promotion or Sustainable Development Interventions
Introduction
Health behaviour refers to any behaviour which influences the individual's mental and physical health or whichever behaviour that individuals conceive might impact on their physical or mental health. Improvement of the public health and individual's wellbeing is the major concern of understanding and improving health behaviour.
No doubt there a massive amount of potential influences, intervention for the improvement of health and attempt to change the essential psychological determinants of health behaviour. In order words, behavioural intervention can be effective if they applied to those people or communities they meant for and these interventions are theoretical based then before their implementation they should be cautiously crafted and appropriately tested. In order to expand knowledge and understand health behaviours and development of behavioural interventions, researchers have developed models which can improve their health condition in an appropriate manner. There are significant theories and models which facilitates the practice of health promotion. These theories and models are health belief models, theory of reasoned action, theory of planned behaviour, social ecological models, the trans-theoretical model or stages of change model, social-cognitive theory depending on the condition of the health (www.msahperd.com).
In this paper, we will critically evaluate the application and importance of theory of behaviour change to the development of health promotion or sustainable development interventions. The theory which discussed social cognitive theory.
Discussion
For examining health promotion and disease prevention from the perspective of social cognitive theory, the areas which overlap with, some of the most commonly used psychosocial models of health identified. Models of health promotion and disease prevention have been the subject of several generational changes. Researchers are attempting to alarm people regarding their health, giving them self-regulation skills to manage their health habits, to support their changing habits of trust with social supports. These transformations developed have a multifaceted approach that addresses the reciprocal interaction between the determinants of self-regulation and the environmental performance of health (Eun-Ok Lee, 2001, pp. 25).
The social cognitive theory addresses the socio-structural determinants of health and personal determinants. A holistic approach to health promotion requires changing the practices of social systems those widespread adverse effects on health, not just changing habits of the people. The Progress which required in, this flied is the construction of new structures for health promotion, new systems of risk reduction and a greater emphasis on health policy initiatives. Beliefs in their collective effectiveness to accomplish social change, therefore, play a pivotal role in politics and public health approach to health promotion and disease prevention (Malotte, Jarvis, et al., 2000, pp. 357).
