Introduction

The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge by exploring some relevant literature related to the impact of globalization on nursing discipline. Over the years, more emphasis is laid on the delivery of nursing services as the demand for quality health care services has increased. The key points discussed in this paper will be based on historical prospective of nursing with reference to globalization, present implication of globalization in the nursing profession and the future prospect of nursing.

The twentieth century has brought great changes, characterized by obtaining greater civil liberty, social justice and conscience and important discoveries in different fields such as space, nuclear energy, healthcare etc. The First and Second World War brought many changes in training and activities of nurses. Nursing care made a difference in the recovery of sick and wounded soldiers. In the first 50 years of this century, the priority was to eradicate communicable diseases and infection control from the use of aseptic and antiseptic methods. Between '50 and '60 had the highest force or community health nurse, whose emphasis was on home care and health education to develop their potential, providing security, relief and cure to the public. It opened many nursing schools in different parts of the world and took steps to organize knowledge of the profession. The internal forces of nursing had increased awareness and participation to move towards professionalism and innovation, the scope of their responsibilities. The movements of science and technology in the twentieth century have had a significant effect on the development of health care policy and nursing services. These have allowed man to prolong and improve their quality of life (Lee, 2010). This changing environment created the need for rigorous training in order to keep up with the modern world. Having come this far has not been without conflict. The development of nursing has meant a continuous global struggle for allowing us to advance in knowledge and its application, despite having a significant effect on the quality of community life.
