Abstract
Foreign aid to education in Pakistan is dysfunctional, and not being utilized in an appropriate manner. The future of foreign aid in Pakistan is precarious, provided the fact that the government creates a mechanism to undertake concerted efforts in promoting the sector and taking it out of the dumps. This research-based study assessed the effectiveness of aid utilization to the dedicated sector of education, while evaluating the militarization of foreign aid in recent times. The ongoing war on terror makes it difficult for the Pakistani education sector to find a place in a situation where all of the disbursed funds are solely being concentrated towards the eradication of terrorism from the region, that too, in the greater interest of the international donor community. The study presents a broader overview of aid disbursement from the times Pakistan gained independence to the present, crisis situation in which funds are not being apportioned for the said sector, in a feasible manner. The study found that aid effectiveness has been greatly undermined and the dependence of the country on foreign dollars and pounds has been greater than ever. Even in these conditions, the remitted aid is not properly utilized to a satisfactory extent which is why the effects of the deprivation are continuously being realized by the education sector. While the number of students force is growing at a rapid pace owing to the ever-increasing population, there is a need to concentrate attention towards the progress and upbringing of the education sector, once and for all.
