Introduction To FedEx

FedEx is offering a wide range of services to their customers in the industry of express delivery and they are accommodating the broadest variety of consignments. FedEx is operating in the industry of shipping goods from one place to another that is an industry, which has a very few industries in it. This industry of shipping could be assorted as being existent in the maturity stage. The a small number of competitors in this industry, e.g. DHL, UPS, etc, have their band of truehearted customers and operate on very low cost, therefore, the entry barriers in this industry are very high. FedEx started its business as a company that used to facilitate movement of some packages from one place to another, and now today it is one of the biggest transportation companies of the world. It was necessary for FedEx to first analyze and determine the critical success factors of the industry, and then meet those critical success factors to convert a traditional business into a business that is known worldwide for its high-class service and performance.

In this report, we will analyze the strategies taken by FedEx to achieve success in the industry of express delivery. We have used different methods to analyze the fact that whether FedEx has met the critical success factors for the Express industry or not.

Political Environment Analysis: 

FedEx has been conducting its operations globally, and thus, it has to comply according to the rules & regulations, which are there for the international firms. To follow the international rules and regulations for the carrying different consignments, FedEx makes sure that it never carries any consignments that are not following the international laws for export and import. (McBrewster, Frederic, Vandome 2009) Like all the companies in the shipping business, these companies would not accept any liability for any expense or any loss, that has occurred during the shipment, which also includes the different penalties and fines, because of failure from any side to abide by the rules or regulations regarding export or import or movement of goods. The FedEx make its employees to work in joint session with the officials of the Custom of America, to make sure that any controlled items may not go through their shipments. They have originated very sharp road maps for shipping, and a part of their policy is that they should have all the relevant information about their customers, in alignment with the law enforcement agencies, to discourage and forbid the movement of deadly and dangerous things and people in America. It is a part of their policy to monitor different packages, which they receive for shipment, to make sure that there is not a chance of any illegal or potentially dangerous things being shipped through them.
