Having a look at the history not only increases knowledge but also makes us familiar with a number of incidences that hold central position in our lives, although we do not even know how significant they are. For instance, a heart patient might not know about the first heart transplant that took place years ago in Africa, but had the procedure not been carried out, we might still be living with medicines as the last hope for heart patients. Similarly, a number of other incidences can be linked to present day events, as the incidences in history have been refined and glorified over time to come out as present day happenings. The list of such incidences is too long to be covered in a few pages, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that present day world have been different altogether of the pace of events in history has not been the same as today. This implies that if advancements and progress had not followed to same pace, we would still have been living in dark ages with lesser facilities and perhaps lesser understanding of the world around us.
This implies that each and every incident of present day is linked to the events in history, and all the facilities that we enjoy today are somehow linked to the happenings in the past. This paper seeks to shed light on one such event that took place in the 1960s and that has placed great impact on my life and career as well as the overall community has been affected by it to a great extent (Bussey, 2003). The event under discussion is: launching of first shuttle mission by Russia in 1961.

Launching of First Shuttle Mission by Russia in 1961
April 12 was a big day for Russia back in 1961, as this was the day the first shuttle mission was launched in space and thus man took his first step towards conquering the space. After getting to the depths of the sea and peaks of the mountains, man decided to set his foot in space as well the mission was thus launched to make the dream come true. This day marked the beginning of a new era in human history and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man to enter space. The cosmonaut made a 108 minute orbital flight to the spacecraft already present in space, known as Vostok- 1. The next day, all the major newspapers and other media of communication contained news of the heroic act by the cosmonaut, who risked his life to pave the way for future man and mark a major benchmark in the history of human beings. Although the cosmonaut was followed by a number of others, but the part played by him in human history remains unchallenged and thus the importance of task performed by him accounts for the most heroic one in history of technology (Kranz, 2009).
