CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION
Background
The Net Generation, this is the most common and famous terminology used for the Generation Z today, mainly for the people who were born between the time period of early 1990-2000. Socialization is considered as the widespread attribute among the Generation Z and they are termed as “highly connected” as well, most of them usually have a lifelong usage of technological communications and media like instant messaging, I-pods, WWW (World Wide Web), text messaging, Facebook, YouTube and mobile phones (Lenhart and Madden, 2007).
The connectivity of Generation Z is not only limited to the computer that they have at home, it's more of a global village for them where connecting from one corner of the world to another is just a click away. The usage of technology and socialization at global level can be carried out with the help of the devices that facilitate mobile internet usage and modern forms of laptops (Cain, 2008). The forms and ways of communication have changed drastically over the years with the introduction of new technology according to the demands and needs of the young generation. The generation today, is not familiar with the traditional or old methods of communication like sending letters nor are they interested into getting the knowledge regarding these methods. Generation Z opts for the mediums that are efficient in delivery and takes micro seconds for delivery so that the communication becomes faster for them. The preferences of young generation are chats and email through the social networking websites like twitter and Facebook (Corbett, 2009).
